Designing a primary school offers a unique opportunity to create spaces that are not only functional but also joyful, engaging, and responsive to how young children learn. VEGA School, located in the heart of Gurugram, exemplifies this approach. Designed by Education Design International (EDI), the school caters to students from early years up to Grade 5, and is built on the belief that the learning environment should stimulate creativity, movement, and curiosity.

The campus is anchored by two distinctive cylindrical buildings, connected by vertical circulation cores. These forms are brought to life through vibrant colors, playful design elements, and interior layouts that reflect the energy and adaptability of primary education. Inside, flexible furniture and learning zones support a variety of teaching and learning styles, from group collaboration to individual exploration. A pastel color palette was intentionally chosen to enhance focus, calmness, and engagement for young learners.

While playful in appearance, the school is grounded in robust safety and sustainability measures. The buildings are fitted with high-performance glazing, insulated square panels, and tensile roofing structures to improve energy efficiency and withstand extreme weather conditions. The architectural design also incorporates learning pods—open-plan classrooms paired with activity zones and teacher collaboration areas—fostering a rich, dynamic learning experience.

By integrating interdisciplinary learning, movement, and play-based education into every aspect of the design, VEGA School offers a nurturing and forward-thinking environment where young learners can thrive, explore, and grow.
