The Early Childhood Learning Center at Col·legi Montserrat in Barcelona is a groundbreaking space designed to support inquiry-based learning for children aged 3 to 5. Grounded in Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, this dynamic environment fosters project-based, collaborative, and personalized learning through immersive, play-rich experiences tailored to each child’s unique abilities.
Moving beyond traditional classroom design, the center features a fluid, open-plan layout anchored by an undulating central pathway. This architectural spine connects three distinct, biophilic learning zones, each inspired by the natural beauty of Barcelona—the ocean, mountains, and forest. These themed areas promote curiosity, exploration, and creative thinking by bringing nature into the learning process.
Equipped with flexible, age-appropriate furniture and adaptive learning spaces, the center encourages movement, collaboration, and self-directed discovery. Every element is intentionally designed to empower young learners to grow through hands-on, meaningful learning experiences that celebrate their individual strengths and support holistic development.
