American Embassy School-Pre K, New Delhi
The Pre-K Pod at the American Embassy School challenges the traditional concept of a classroom by introducing a zoned, open-plan environment tailored to the developmental needs of early learners. Designed to foster introspection, exploration, collaboration, and creative discovery, the pod is a seamless blend of playful transparency and structured learning.
The interiors are thoughtfully curated with customized, child-friendly elements, using natural wood, soft whites, and subtle accent colors to create a calming and familiar setting—an environment that feels like an extension of home. Among its defining features are layered wooden mounds that encourage climbing, sitting, and imaginative play, while a sensory walk guides children toward a wooden treehouse nestled in a quiet corner. At the heart of the pod stands the Learning Tree, a sculptural feature made of wood and rope, inspired by the iconic banyan tree on campus. The Atelier and Learning Commons extend to an outdoor deck shaded by perforated aluminum ceiling screens, casting ever-changing light and shadow patterns that stimulate sensory engagement.
Acoustic ceiling panels combined with mirrored surfaces add dimension and sound control, while custom lighting systems provide balanced, ambient illumination across zones. Every corner of the pod has been maximized with functional, integrated design details—from drying troughs and display walls to storage-partition hybrids and a dedicated stage with a green screen—making the space highly adaptive and supportive of each child’s natural growth and developmental journey.
